In reply to your letter of the 30th ultimo (20280/96) I am directed by the Lords Commissioners of Her

Majesty's Treasury to inform you that They concur in the

proposal of the Secretary of State for the Colonies to instruct the Crown Agents not to accept in future any Chinese Government Bonds as security in connexion with the Note Issue of the Hong Kong and Shanghai Bank.

My Lords presume that the same course will be

adopted by the Trustees for the securities deposited at Hong Kong (the Colonial Treasurer and Colonial Secretary)
